DOUGLAS COUNTY, Neb. (KETV) — Porch pirates are an ongoing problem here in the metro area, and it’s only ramping up with the Holiday season.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says right now, they’re getting reports of theft, every single day.
Local apartment complexes say they’ve been hit hard with career criminals stealing packages– despite drastic security measures.
“They seem to be using very slender crowbars. picking locks. How they’re technically getting into the huge mag locks that we’ve installed on all the doors. I can’t say for certain, but they do find a way,” said Maddy Rock, the regional director for The Richdale Group.
Rock says they’ve done what they can to prevent the thefts, now they’re urging residents:
“Make a police report every time that they have a package theft, call the mayor’s hotline. The more people we can get involved in giving us the community assistance that we are asking for, I think it will help apprehend these people,” said Rock.
Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hansen says, this holiday season, they’re being proactive with those porch pirates, and they’re stopping them at the source…
